For 22 of my 32 years at MIT I worked part time running the stage for another educational institution in the area. A couple of wrestlers worked back stage with me and told me that the wrestling team had the biggest concentration of gay boys of any other activity or sport in the school, bar none.
And, yes, the close physical action, including being locked in pseudo-coital positions for extended periods of time, was the great attraction for most of them.
