Save Pinebank
I only recently discovered Pinebank (pictured above) during a walk along Jamaica Pond this past summer. I was instantly taken by its grandeur, even in its current state of severe disrepair. The City of Boston is planning to demolish it and has already begun to dismantle the structure, but an eleventh hour effort to save the historic building is underway.
Pinebank was completed in 1870. It remains the only original building in Boston’s Emerald Necklace Park system designed in the 1890’s by Frederick Law Olmsted.
I took the above photo today at dusk, while walking around Jamaica Pond with Little Joe.

I had never heard of Pinebank but thanks to you I would love to see it saved and restored. I know what the costs would be, but Boston lost a lot of history in the waterfront area during Kevin White's last term as Mayor (he sold out to any developer who came along and we lost magnificent dated mercantile buildings to cheap McSkyscrapers). It would be good to save a gem like Pinebank redone for the community.
I was out of town for New Years and didn't see your post about having a son. Congratualtions to you both--I remember how devastating Ukraine was for you and this is very good news indeed.
Big hugs and all my best.
many thanks, will. happy new year to you!
It's sad, and Boston has been scheming this for a long time. They ignored recommendations in 1996 from a Strategy report prepared by professionals, and are now using the $750,000 voted in 1996 for stabilization, for demolition instead.
